  Modifications/Changes to Animal Use Protocol

Approval for minor modifications (such as a change from jugular vein to tail vein for obtaining a blood sample, or change in anesthetic agent) must be requested in advance.  Please use the Addendum Form for these types of changes. Enough information must be presented to the IACUC in this form for an adequate review and decision to be made.

Addition of personnel to an animal project must be approved in advance. Please use the Personnel Change Form to document these changes.

If you need more animals than initially justified, it must be clear how will they be used and what happened that caused this request.  Please use the Increasing Animal Numbers Form for this type of request.

If significant changes (anything which might increase the potential for pain, distress, discomfort) are proposed, a revised Animal Use Approval Form may be required, with a complete explanation of how the animals will now be used and why the change is being made.

If you wish to conduct a pilot project, a separate Animal Use Approval Form must be submitted for review and approval.

It is a serious violation of regulations to perform any procedure on any animal which has not been explicity approved by the IACUC in advance.
Approval to perform a given procedure on a given set of animals for one project is not blanket approval to perform that procedure on any other animals.
